“Woke”

According to Merriam-Webster, “WOKE means being aware of and actively attentive to important facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)”. When one is “woke“, there is consideration, discernment, and love. Indeed, these qualities embraced in modern society are impressively kind and beneficial to victims of discrimination. However, what I have been observing so far is the contrary of what I expected to see and feel.

If we go back to its definition, being “woke” is more concerned with racial issues and social injustices. When it’s beyond these things, I couldn’t see any care and love; rather, it’s a straight-up condemnation like how the Pharisees behaved. For instance, when a celebrity has said or done something aligned to prejudice, they quickly cancel that person. They never show a hint of consideration even when that speech or deed was a thing of the past. Now, tell me, isn’t that judgmental? Why do you accuse a person at present of a “grave” mistake that happened in the past? Will there be no chance for that person to change his or her ways?

Another instance is when a celebrity committed a racial slur
or a gesture suggestive of prejudice at present. They will
automatically label this celebrity as RACIST or EVIL. Then, they will completely hate this person and encourage others to boycott whatever he or she does. They even try to destroy the celebrity’s whole entity including family and friends. For sure, the “evil act” must have unreasonable excuses; again, it doesn’t have to be unforgivable.

When you are a Christian, it would be imbalanced that you
associate with these “woke” people. Why? Because they have this
concern for people yet at the same time this hatred for people. I sometimes wonder why they often regard themselves as well-informed and considerate. However, when it comes to spiritual matters, they tend to be narrow-minded, insensitive, and indifferent in weighing these issues.

My problem is inconsistency and favoritism. Because it’s a notion built by human minds, it is bound to be imperfect and unjust. I wonder why some people invest so much to be labeled as such. Surely, the accumulation of knowledge is evident, and the sanctimonious feeling to rescue a victim of injustice is rewarding. Even so, why am I seeing violence, division, and hate trickling down from this concept of being “woke“? Perhaps, some people who are “involved” now and like to be labeled as “woke” have never understood the original objective of this worldly and soulless human concept. Thus, they have been killing the reputation of this seemingly important shout-out to charity.
